The national service scheme NSS is a central sector scheme of govt.of india, ministry of youth Affairs and sports. on 24th september 1969, the birth century of Maharma gandhi, father of the nation, India govt. started NSS with the hope that students of higher education department will develop social responsibility, self discepline, social cousceousness, respect for labour. students in their leisure and holidays use their free time for social work and along with studies face the bare realities of life and develop his/her own personality.
In the year 1969 Madhya pradesh and chattisgarh introduced NSS for the first time in Universities and at present all the colleges of the state are operating it sucessfully. Besides the frame work of the scheme is divided into A,B, and C certificates. After completing special 7 days camp and 240 hours of service NSS candidate get the B or C certificate which add in their Bio-data. it give bonus points to the candidate.
In govt. naveen girls college baikunthpur in the session 2011 NSS started with only 100 seats (girls unit) since then with the aim of through social service develop their personality. The institution is actively and sucesfully running the NSS scheme.
